Twitter is one of the most popular and effective social media tools, yet many find it too complex to use. There are a few things that are specific to Twitter, but once you have the basics right you will start to see the great benefits. Here is a simple overview of what you need to know to make the most out of it:

TWEETS

  • 140-character messages used for sharing on Twitter
  • Registered users can read and post tweets, unregistered users can only read them

RETWEETING

  • Forwarding a tweet by users
  • Both tweets and re-tweets are tracked an indicate content popularity

  • Users subscribing to other user’s tweets
  • Subscribers are known as “followers“
  • When you choose to follow another Twitter user, that user’s tweets appear in reverse chronological order on your main Twitter page
